Maruti is said to be working on the upgraded Swift and Dzire with a codename “YED”. Both the upcoming Swift and Dzire hybrid versions will feature an entirely new Suzuki 1.2-litre petrol engine which is internally codenamed Z12E. They will be packed with a three-cylinder unit rather than a four-cylinder engine, unlike the current K12C engine.
Maruti Swift and Dzire hybrid models
Since Maruti Suzuki dominates the Indian auto market, the news regarding the next-generation Swift and Dzire hybrid models is of tremendous interest. According to sources familiar with the situation, both hybrid vehicles might deliver an ARAI-rated mileage of 35 to 40 kmpl, which is significantly better than their current ICE counterparts. The maximum fuel efficiency ratings for the current Swift and Dzire petrol engines are 22.56 kmpl and 24.1 kmpl, respectively. While the newly launched Maruti Grand Vitara SUV has an ARAI cycle rating of 27.97kmpl. It goes without saying that the price difference between the strong hybrid and non-hybrid versions of the next Swift and Dzire will be greater. Maruti may close this price difference to between Rs. 1 lakh and 1.5 lakh. Due to their low CO2 emissions and great fuel efficiency, hybrid vehicles would not only help consumers but also improve Maruti Suzuki’s CAFE rating (Corporate Average Fuel Economy). Currently, Maruti produces between 30k-40k Swift and Dzire vehicles every month, and it is promoting hybrid technology to account for an increase in Swift and Dzire sales.
